As I write this, I am praying over this blog and the impact I hope it makes in your life. I pray that it starts an uncontainable fire in your heart to take the stewardship of your health to the next level. I pray the fire takes your relationship with Jesus to deeper level by experiencing in a fresh way, God’s passionate concern with every detail of your life.
So please join me, before you go on, and ask the Lord to open your heart and mind to be challenged in a new way.
Now, let’s tackle this topic like men, head on and humble:
The WORST mistake we can make with our health is allowing our feelings to guide our lives.
“Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.” Psalm 119:105 (NIV)
There is not one pastor that will tell you that a healthy marriage is held together by good feelings. There is not one pastor that will tell you that your feelings in the moment should be your guide when it comes to sexual purity in your life. There is not one pastor that would preach from a pulpit that following Jesus is about following your “feelings.” And if there is a pastor in your life, whether at your church or on TV saying this, it’s time to find a new pastor or stop watching that junk on TV.
“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.” Romans 12:2 (ESV)
We are living in a time where our culture says “if it feels good, do it.” And it’s a very popular philosophy that the Christian mind has to be transformed away from. If we allow our minds to be conformed to this philosophy of living, it will lead us out of God’s will and into catastrophic destruction…right where Satan wants to see all of us.
“Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.” 1 Peter 5:8 (ESV)
Let’s take a look at some guidance feelings give us that can lead to serious disasters in our lives:
- “Stay in bed, shut your alarm off, sleep in, a little white lie to your boss about being ‘sick’ won’t hurt anything.”
- “You’re on a business trip, a few pornographic videos won’t hurt anything. Nobody will ever know.”
- “You’ve had a hard day in the office, you deserve a burger, fries and a soda. You need a night to relax and watch TV. You can take action on the exercise and diet plan your doctor talked about next Monday.”
Our feelings are some of Satan’s most lethal weapons him and his army use to destroy our lives. And the scariest thing about Satan’s voice is that it sounds just like ours. He uses our inner voice to work against us, to get our lives off track and position us to self-destruct. It is of the highest importance that we take a stand against the control of this voice and learn to live by the voice and leading of the Holy Spirit in every area…including the health of our bodies.
“For if you live according to the flesh you will die, but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live.” Romans 8:13 (ESV)
God bought these bodies with the precious price of Jesus’ blood on the cross and set us (born again believers) free from the power of sin and death. God desires for us to be good stewards of these bodies, the bodies the Holy Spirit came to make His home in the moment we repented and accepted the sacrifice Jesus made on the cross for our sins. And like any good father, God desires for us to obey Him because He knows it’s the best thing we can do with our lives on this planet.
“Don’t you see that you can’t live however you please, squandering what God paid such a high price for? The physical part of you is not some piece of property belonging to the spiritual part of you. God owns the whole works. So let people see God in and through your body.” 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 (The Message paraphrase)
So men, it’s time to take command of these bodies and make them act in a way that pleases the Lord. It is time to be finished with allowing our feelings to be the decision makers in our lives. It’s time to take every action, and make it worshipful to the Lord…including what we eat, what we drink, how we rest, and with the strength of our muscular skeletal system.
“For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive the things done in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad.” 2 Corinthians 5:10 (NKJV)
I pray this blog has started a fire in your soul that can’t be contained. I ask you to share it and spread the challenge to the men in your life.
